• Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park

Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park Photos by Aaron Cathcart Snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park is one of several winter activities visitors can enjoy.   Many people love the outdoor activities offered in the winter more than the summer activities.   Even though the park draws fewer visitors in the winter than in the summer it is no less magnificent.   Contrary to what many guests think, the park is open year round and the wildlife and bird watching is always amazing in its variety and abundance.   Coyote, Bighorn Sheep, elk, as well as an amazing selection of birds call the park home in the winter months.   You may not actually glimpse the animals themselves but you are quite likely to see their tracks as you traverse the miles of trails in the park.

Ranger-led snowshoe walks are featured on weekends through the end of March for beginner to advance levels.   Snowshoe walks require reservations that can be made in advance, seven days or less prior to the desired walk. Participants must furnish their own equipment, including poles with baskets, and be at least 8 years old. Call the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center at (970) 586-1223 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily to make reservations.
